Mincon acquires Viqing

Mincon Group, the Irish engineering group specialising in the design, manufacture, sale and servicing of rock drilling tools and associated products, has completed the acquisition of Viqing Drilling Equipment through its Mincon Nordic subsidiary.

Mincon acquires Viqing

Viqing, based in Sunne, Sweden, specialises in the manufacturing of friction-welded drill pipes and drilling accessories. Mincon plans to build out and staff this strategic development by integrating it within its global sales and manufacturing businesses.

Working closely with its customers allows Viqing to produce customised products tailored to their individual demands, whether it be friction-welded drill pipes, adapters, subs or other drilling accessories for mining, geothermal, water well, construction and exploration drilling applications.

Viqing products are made from high-quality steel, sourced from leading European steel mills with the technical specifications the industry requires. API-certified thread gauges are then used for quality control inspections prior to dispatch.

Joe Purcell, chief executive officer at Mincon, commented: "Viqing is a drill pipe manufacturer of excellent quality and is already a major supplier to the Mincon Group. It is a great vertical fit for us, since we already sell their products right across our subsidiaries, and we would have several million euros of turnover to direct towards the factory. We understand the business, and its product are entirely congruent with the hammers and bits we already sell. We are glad to welcome the very experienced and committed management team to the group."

Phil Dixon, regional sales manager at Mincon, added:  "We are thrilled with the addition of Viqing to the Mincon Group, with their premium quality drill rods, combined with the recent addition of PPV Finland and their overburden ring bit systems, it completes another part of our market offering. We now are able to offer even more of our customers a single source supply for their full drill string requirements; no matter the market or application."
