Once finished, the Long-Baseline Neutrino Facility (LBNF) will be the site of the international Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE).
Deep below the surface in South Dakota, US, construction crews have been working to carve out a network of caverns and tunnels that one day will house a huge neutrino experiment. Their efforts are paying off with almost 400,000t of rock extracted from the earth, the excavation is now half complete.
