Link road geotechnical package for Bachy Soletanche

Bachy Soletanche has been awarded the geotechnical works package, worth £1.9 million (US$2.4 million) for a 5.5km link road project in the UK that will join the A534 Sandbach Road (to the west of Congleton) with the A536 Macclesfield Road (to the north of the town). When complete, the new road will significantly reduce town centre traffic congestion, particularly at peak times.

Bachy Soletanche has been awarded a £1.9m piling contract by GRAHAM, on the Congleton Link Road project

The company's scope of works is to provide piled foundations for four bridges located at Loach Brook, Chelford Road, the River Dane and Giantswood Lane. In total, the scheme requires the construction of over 400 piles, providing support for abutments, piers and wing walls. A range of techniques are being adopted including; large diameter rotary bored piling, continuous flight auger piling and secant wall piling. Pile diameters will range between 750mm and 1,200mm, with pile depths between 18m and 26m.

Commenting on the award, Ken Gailey, operations director at Bachy Soletanche, said: "During the tender process we formed a collaborative relationship with GRAHAM, helping to develop the scheme and drive efficiencies by offering a range of alternative solutions
