Comacchio introduces MC 20 A to micropiling and anchor drilling rig range

Comacchio has expanded its MC line of micropiling and anchoring drill rigs with the Introduction of the MC 20 A, developed with a focus on demanding heavy-duty applications such as tieback installation with casings.

Comacchio has responded to the demand for rigs with mechanised rod and casing handling systems with the introduction of the new MC 20 A rig for micropiling and anchor drilling

The MC 20 A was developed in response to the growing demand for mechanised handling of drill rods and casings, especially for shoring projects that require the installation of multiple rows of grouted tieback anchors with casings.

The MC 20 A is described by Comacchio as the ideal solution for double head drilling systems that can be operated either in rotary/rotary mode or rotary/rotary-percussion mode, but it can also be configured with a vast selection of single rotary heads and powerful hydraulic drifters.

Falling in the 20t weight class, the newly-designed MC 20 A ensures maximum productivity thanks to its heavy-duty carousel, which allows mechanical manipulation of drill rods and casings, eliminating any manual handling of the drilling tools.

Despite the very compact design, the carousel can handle up to nine pairs of rods and casings with variable diameters, up to 3m long. It can also carry a maximum drill string length of 30m and a maximum load of 1,150kg. Its gripper system does not require any adjustment when changing from one diameter to the other.

Once the drilling and grouting are completed, the carousel remains fully loaded and ready for the next borehole. The carousel can also be used for single-tube applications and hollow bar installation.

The MC 20 A is fully automated and needs only one person to operate it, translating into high production, increased efficiency and safety. It is completely remote controlled thanks to the Comacchio proprietary all-in-one radio control system, also controlling all of the tracking/set-up and drilling functions.

The combination of the advanced articulation system and carousel ensures that even boreholes that are out of hand-feed range can be easily reached without the need for additional equipment. The mast articulation allows the rig to perform the most varied mast inclinations and an infinite number of working positions (including horizontal and sub-horizontal drilling) and reach high production rates even in extremely small spaces. The rig also adapts to vertical drilling, covering front-the-wall positions. The 100kN mast can be equipped with double or triple clamps, including Comacchio's patented casing extractor.

To ensure enhanced stability while operating with heavy drilling systems, the MC 20 A features oscillating crawler tracks with an increased wheelbase.

The rig is equipped with a new generation Cummins QSB6.7 engine providing 209kW and complying with the latest EU Stage V/US EPA Tier 4 Final standards. The powerful engine allows the MC 20 A to simultaneously run a 200l/min flushing pump and a double head system offering up to 3,200daNm torque on the lower head.

As part of the Comacchio High Tech Line, the MC 20 A features an advanced hydraulic system that ensures that the power is managed to maximise performance under the actual operating conditions, reducing energy consumption and preventing possible engine overloads. The use of the most advanced engine design and post-treatment technology, combined with an intelligent electronically controlled heat dissipation system, offers enhanced efficiency and reduces environmental impact in terms of noise, emissions and fuel consumption.
