With 340 employees and a turnover of €21 million (US$24 million), BAC is a recognised player in inspection, engineering, quality control and risk management in building and civil engineering, especially in transport infrastructures, maritime works and water supply systems, as well as in the construction sector in general. It is a benchmark in structural analysis, material control and non-destructive testing, environmental studies, energy efficiency, geotechnics and monitoring, for which it has its own laboratories (three in Catalonia).
In addition to its headquarters in Barcelona and its presence in Catalonia, the company also has offices in Madrid and Zaragoza, and carries out projects throughout Spain for clients in the public and private sectors. It also has a subsidiary in Colombia with 50 employees.
Hervé Montjotin, president, Socotec, said: "Establishing a presence in Spain is part of our strategic roadmap and is important to complete our European presence. We now cover almost the entire western part of the continent.
"The diversity of our knowledge makes of BAC a condensed version of Socotec The challenges of the Spanish market are similar to those faced by the Group in other territories: risk prevention, the search for greater sustainability of assets or better energy efficiency, the transition to energy green or the resolution of environmental problems. Therefore, there are many synergies, both technical and commercial. For example, the large Spanish construction groups have an international reach and, with the support of Socotec, BAC can better support them.
"BAC's growth is part of a dynamic national market that is reinforced by the European recovery plan. Joan Franco, its previous president, was able to take it to levels of experience recognised by all since its creation in 2009. Guillem Baraut, who replaced him at the end of last year, continues to instil the entrepreneurial spirit that characterises the BAC teams."
Guillem Baraut, CEO of the BAC Group, added: "Our goal is to become leaders in Spain in our areas of activity. Our 340 employees are highly committed and will benefit from the group's contributions: international Socotec clients with projects on the peninsula, specific knowledge or new services. We also intend to share our know-how. Quality, innovation, sustainability and the environment are at the centre of attention of companies in their construction or renovation projects in Spain. Now we are in a position to strengthen our services for them thanks to the merger with Socotec I warmly thank Joan Franco for having taken the company to this level and I am proud, together with all the BAC teams, to be able to write a new chapter in the history of the company with Socotec."
