Science-based target commitment frames Soil Engineering's 40×30 programme

Soil Engineering, one of UK’s leading ground investigation and grouting supplier, is taking major steps to reduce the CO2 impact of the early stages of construction. It describes its 40×30 commitment as not just a slogan, but a mission, and ensuring it is properly validated is critical to its success.

Soil Engineering has now made a formal commitment to delivering its target of 40 per cent CO2 reduction by 2030 through achieving science-based targets, with full external validation. This is a key step on the company's long term journey to full carbon neutrality. Working with the Science Based Targets Initiative it will be progressing its environmental plan through target identification and validation, a process it will be sharing with its stakeholders. It will provide regular public updates on its progress, and hopes to share lessons learned not only within its group of companies but with the wider ground investigation and grouting industries.

40×30 is the first step of its journey to net-zero by 2050. This near term target, and the plan for achieving it, will be submitted to the Science Based Targets Initiative for approval. However, Soil Engineering is not just putting plans together and waiting…

With key steps already being trialled, Soil Engineering aims to build on the progress it has already made. This includes the complete removal of direct carbon dependence from its head office, increasing removal from its other fixed premises through facilities investment and the use of renewables-based tariffs. Its sites are already making progress on this too, and staff are providing engaged feedback on new ideas on a regular basis.
