Aarsleff gets UK coastal slope stabilisation contract

Jackson Civil Engineering has been awarded the £3.9 million Clacton Slope Stabilisation Scheme on behalf of Tendring District Council. The Council has a coastline of 60km and maintains the sea defence structures along 18.5km of this frontage. Within this coastline, Jackson will install a new access ramp down the cliff, a new drainage system and has contracted Aarsleff Ground Engineering to complete the necessary piling work. This scheme will prevent slipping occurring and to make access to the lower promenade safer and wheelchair friendly.

Aarsleff is installing 2037m2 of ZZ28-700 sheet piles and up to 81No. 8m long steel king posts with 3,000 x 1,200 x 140mm thick concrete interlocking panels to form the wall. Utilising a 70t crawler Crane with 925kN high-frequency vibratory hammer operating from the top of the bank, the sheet pile will be driven and left to a level approximately 2m above existing ground level and king post wall will be driven to a level approximately 100mm below the existing/proposed ground level.

"We spent a great deal of time looking closely at this scheme, working out how we could provide the best value engineered solution for our client Jackson Civil Engineering, and its client too. We believe we have proposed a more streamlined and efficient construction practice, and we look forward to demonstrating this on site."
