The Forum was an excellent opportunity to learn about new techniques being employed for deep foundations and hear myths busted along the lines of "just because it's always been done that way, it doesn't mean it's the right way" that can help make the whole process greener and reduce embodied carbon.
It was also interesting to get an understanding of how significant the savings can be by the simple application of modern practices and forward-thinking planning whereby all the industry players on any given project are all consulted well in advance, allowing them to work closely together.
While the drilling industry is actively cleaning up its act, there is still a long way to go, and perhaps more importantly, society as a whole needs to be made aware of just how green drilling is and how it is going ever greener.
Just how the industry is achieving this is among the topics in this issue of GDI, which includes features on future-proofing drivetrains, supporting renewable energy projects, and better understanding the search for new mineral supplies.
