New Zealand-based Seequent has released a major update to its Leapfrog Geo and Edge software, adding new tools, interactions, integrations, and workflow improvements to the industry standard for 3D geological modelling.

The 2026.1 update provides "significant advances in stratigraphic modelling alongside powerful new drillhole planning and estimation capabilities," says the company

"In this release, we're doubling down on our implicit modelling capabilities to further advance geological modelling, with major advances in stratigraphic modelling," Rachel Murtagh, Seequent's product manager for geology, geostatistics and data science, said.

Seequent said the new drillhole planning and estimation features introduced in 2026.1 "create a more seamless, end-to-end workflow across the modelling and resource estimation process," making geological work more efficient and increasing confidence in the modelling results.

Murtagh said the update improved Leapfrog's integration with Seequent Evo, the cloud platform for integrating geological data.

"We're continuing to redefine how customers can work with their data to drive innovation with Leapfrog, enabled by Seequent Evo, to solve operational challenges and unlock new value across the mining lifecycle," Murtagh said.

Geo updates

Leofrog Geo's updates are designed to maximise drillhole value and reduce errors.

These include:

  • A grid-pattern planning tool for the "rapid layout of large, systematic drill patterns with live 3D interaction", which allows editing of individual, targeted holes.

  • The ability to snap collars directly to any surfaces and more control over adjusting the collar and target point positions.

  • Integration with Orica Digital Solutions' AXIS ConnectTM.

Seequent has also introduced an advanced stratigraphy surface, dynamically linking models to data, and adding new tools for stratigraphic sequence analysis and statistics.

"Driven by a new algorithm and the stratigraphic data explorer interface, this enhanced workflow produces geologically sound results for layer thickness, pinch-outs, and tight fold geometries," Seequent said.

Other new features include rapid identification of invalid drillholes and implicit control over surfaces, reducing manual intervention and making results geologically representative.

Edge updates

Leapfrog Edge's latest update adds a dedicated data preparation workflow for the geostatistical modelling process, which "brings structure, transparency, and confidence."

The resource estimation software "creates a rigorous, end-to-end environment for geostatistical modelling," with simplified validation providing scalability for large and complex deposits.

Seequent has added interactive tools for capping and declustering. This allows for rapid testing and scenario comparison.

"The estimation dataset integrates seamlessly into domained estimation, ensuring consistency, traceability, and efficient progression from raw data to final model," Seequent said.
