Develon's crawler excavators just got a whole lot smarter with the manufacturer adding intelligent safety solutions to the recently launched Series 9 machines.

Designed to reduce job-site accidents and protect workers in high-risk environments, the DX230LC-9 and DX260LC-9 models are now equipped with the company's groundbreaking E-Stop system, a first-of-its-kind technology that automatically stops the machine dead in its tracks when a person is detected within a 4m radius.

Together with a new  Smart All-Around Viewing Monitor (SAVM), E-Stop forms an AI-powered safety platform designed to give operators real-time 360 degree view of the machine's surroundings.

Using six cameras and three radar sensors, the system continuously scans from a 13m detection range, enabling operators to accurately understand their environment and see around any blind spots front, back, left and right. When a person is detected, operators receive immediate visual alerts and audible warnings via an in-cab monitor.

The system works alongside a Virtual Wall function that essentially mitigates against human error, with surrounding work areas split into 6m (Yellow) and 4m (Red) danger zones.

Interestingly, the sensor and camera technology used is able to differentiate between a human and an object in order to avoid interrupted workflows.

"E-Stop technology is comparable to emergency braking systems used in the automotive industry," said Stephane Dieu, Develon Excavatos; product manager, adding that the technology has already attracted strong attention from operators looking to improve site safety.
